Meet our Featured Teacher: Marianne Glose

Congratulations to our December 2016 Featured Teacher Marianne Glose. Marianne has taught in the Westhill Central School District for the past 29 years and currently teaches second-grade. Prior to teaching at Westhill, Marianne was the reading teacher at Cato-Meridian High School for one year and a pre-school teacher at Westside Nursery School for one year.

Students are using Chromebooks for the first time in Marianne's classroom this school year. They have learned how to access her Google Classroom in order to find articles, videos, websites for research, and learning games. The students are very motivated to learn new things and practice skills using the Chromebooks. Using the links in Marianne's Google Classroom, students are connected to information that they use to create presentations via Google Slides, participate in discussions with their classmates and families, and write reports. The students often lead the way by suggesting areas they would like to study further and offering to teach other students how to use different features of the Chromebooks. For example, in preparation for a geography unit of study, two students explored Google Maps so that they could teach their classmates how to use the maps to find where they live in the world. This has encouraged other students to look for opportunities to teach something to their classmates. Students will also learn how to use the Chromebooks to create instructional videos that they can share with their classmates. 

When Marianne's students come through her classroom door each day they ask, "Are we going to use the Chromebooks today?" They are excited to explore, learn, and collaborate with their classmates. "The best part is that using this technology allows the students to be curious and interested in learning," says Marianne.
