It’s never too early to think about your future… and having some hopes and dreams is important to leading a healthy life. All of our junior high students are encouraged to think about their future. School Counselors Penny Pomeroy and Annie Tutino have coordinated with OCM BOCES, to bring the entire 8th grade class to visit McEvoy Career and Technology Center on March 23.
Mrs. Pomeroy said, “At BOCES the students will be able to attend three programs for twenty minutes each. Students will participate in hands on activities, discuss what careers come out of each program and learn about college majors that can be linked to that career path. We want students to start thinking about careers at a young age and making these connections. Although we know that not all students will choose to attend a CTE program in high school, we do feel this visit is a meaningful educational opportunity for all of our students at Cortland. As we think about creating students 9th grade schedule, we want to ensure they take the necessary required coursework in preparation to go to BOCES in 11th grade. The high school counselors also offer another field trip for 10th grade students interested to visit again to help them make the decision if a BOCES program is something they want to pursue.”
