CNYRIC Print Shop Briefly Pauses to Move Forward

The CNYRIC Print Shop has faced many challenges throughout the 2025-26 school year. Fortunately, many of those challenges have been resolved (or continue to be actively addressed), and the team is much better positioned to meet the early-school-year rush than they were a year ago at this time. This would appear evident to anyone walking around the actual physical space in the Print Shop, which has undergone some dramatic changes in both layout and logistics to help better position the team for the future.

But in order to achieve this outcome, the team took the somewhat unprecedented step of shutting down print operations over the course of four days earlier this summer in order to tackle these challenges head-on. Taking this step represented a strategic investment in the long-term effectiveness, consistency, and sustainability of services provided across all four CNYRIC printing facilities (Chittenango, Liverpool, North Syracuse, and the CNYRIC main office).

Among the reasons for this temporary pause in production:
  • It created an opportunity to undertake operational improvements, employee training, and process standardization activities that simply could not be effectively performed parallel to typical production norms.
  • It provided a critical, dedicated block of time for reorganizing the physical layout of the Print Shop, to help streamline production going forward.
  • It offered the team the perfect opportunity to take stock of its machinery and other assets by conducting a thorough audit of resources (the need for which became increasingly evident as the project unearthed some… “nostalgic” items that had been hidden away by the years).
Throughout the shutdown, employees worked collaboratively on this operational overhaul that included the aforementioned goals, alongside notable inventory reduction, the implementation of updated policies and procedures, and other staff development activities. The initiative was designed to improve operational readiness, create greater consistency across locations, and establish a stronger foundation for future success.

It should be noted that while physical production was paused, a primary goal throughout the shutdown was ensuring that schools and departments continued to receive timely communication and support for any questions or concerns. Incoming requests were monitored daily, customer inquiries were addressed continually, and urgent matters received direct attention from management when necessary. As a result, customer confidence was maintained, and no inquiries went unresolved. Production may have paused, but exceptional customer service never did.

Congratulations go out to the entire team for its incredibly hard work in a short amount of time, and we can’t wait to see how it impacts their day-to-day as we head into a new school year! The CNYRIC would also like to thank all of its partner districts for their patience and understanding during this brief pause in operations.
