Advisory Council

INTRODUCTION:
For over 20 years the Educational Communications Division of the Onondaga- Cortland-Madison BOCES has provided two major services which have been guided by an advisory council of school district representatives. These services are the Media Library and Technical Repair Services and are known collectively as the Curriculum Resource Center.

PURPOSES:
Timely and accurate communication between school districts and the Curriculum Resource Center is a major responsibility of the council representatives. Anticipating and knowing the needs, concerns and instructional goals of the district and being able to share those issues with other representatives is a vital role for council members. With this information the council can carefully guide the development of special collections, help design services and focus on priorities that will provide component schools with a program that provides the best support at affordable costs.

The primary client of the BOCES Curriculum Resource Center services are classroom teachers. Therefore, the goal of our council is to provide support services that are important to teachers in their role as instructional managers in their various subject areas and grade levels.

COMPOSITION:
Each of the 23 component school districts which make up the Onondaga-Cortland-Madison BOCES are encouraged to select a faculty representative of their choice on the council. This person selected should be able to communicate the media needs of their district at council meetings and provide each of their schools with feed-back on BOCES services. In addition, educational specialists from public television, higher education, and library systems frequently attend meetings and provide special reports of particular interest to the school representatives. The Director of the Educational Communications Division is responsible for organizing the meetings which are usually held on the first Thursday of the month from 1 P.M. to 3 P.M. throughout the school year.

Agendas are prepared and mailed to each representative 1 week prior to the meetings with items suggested by the council and the director. Minutes of the proceedings are mailed to representatives, school administrators, media personnel, and others who have requested copies of the minutes.
