From Around the Region: Skaneateles CSD Grad Returns to Talk Shop with Students
From Around the Region with Skaneateles Central School District
Nancy Menapace Cable, a 2005 graduate of Skaneateles High School, recently returned to SHS to speak with seniors in Matt Slauson’s Engineering Design class.
Following Mechanical Engineering studies at Northwestern and Syracuse University, Cable is currently working as a senior Engineer at Woodward Inc., an aerospace manufacturing company located in Colorado that focuses on building engines and airframes for companies like Boeing and Caterpillar.
Cable spent the period talking with students about what it is like to work as an Engineer and how she went about finding the right job for her.
Cable was able to relate to students how the problem solving skills she learned in high school, coupled with her experiences in Engineering classes at SHS helped her to find a job she loves.
While Cable is in charge of seven different product lines at Woodward, she also mentors college interns.
“Don’t be afraid to fail at something,” said Cable. “Try again, because your ability to try again makes you a smarter and more valuable asset to the company you work for.”
Cable and her husband also operate a nonprofit in Colorado that focuses on helping military veterans with PTSD and life outside the military.
“As you can imagine, I am very proud of Nancy’s accomplishments and willingness to give back to the students at SCS and other people in her life,” said Slauson.
