Here are the most recent updates from New York State, pertaining to Ed Law 2-D:
- Per the most recent update, the duties of the district's mandated Data Protection Officer can no longer be satisfied by multiple individuals sharing the responsibilities; these duties must now be handled (and the position filled) by one person in each district.
- The anticipated adoption date for district the Data Security and Privacy policy has been moved to back to July 1, 2020, rather than Dec. 31, 2019 as was last proposed.
- It is anticipated that the regulations will be approved by the Board of Regents at its January meeting. Pending said approval, districts will need to identify their DPO by January 29, 2020
